My Sanity

I weighed my bags this morning, and was delighted to find that both were under 50 lbs!
My largest came in at 47 lbs, and so I feel safe to add a towel and clean sheets, and call it done!
I know that I can buy them there, but I also know myself, and the first thing I will want to do when I am "home" is take a shower and then have a lie down on clean sheets.

My other bag came in at 35 lbs!  I know!  And I had packed a lot, including my speakers and subwoofer!  Yeah, you read that right.  Here I am learning and practicing new packing techniques and obsessively weighing my luggage, all the while not batting an eye at the 10 lb speakers carefully wrapped and cradled.  Leaving those speakers is not an option.

I love music.  I am hopeless to describe its importance to me, so let me borrow the words of a far more evolved mind:  "Music takes us out of the actual and whispers to us dim secrets that startle our wonder as to who we are, and for what, whence, and whereto."  Ralph Waldo Emerson.

I can make any situation work - any place home, as long as I can come home,  close my eyes, and surround myself with music.  And these speakers let me do that.  Oh, they don't look like much.  They are scratched and beat up.  I've had to super glue and duct tape them temporarily.   And they are very old. But the music sounds sweeter coming from them.
